Mr. Phil Ewerdt grew up in south-central Wisconsin where he attended a Lutheran K-8 grade school. He graduated from Lakeside Lutheran High School and attended Martin Luther College. During his time at MLC he joined the Minnesota Army National Guard. He also met his wife, Hannah, there, and they got married after she graduated. He was deployed to Iraq from 2005 – 2007. After that he continued at MLC and graduated in 2008, receiving his first call to teach grades 3-5 in St. Paul, MN. He taught there for eight years until he came to teach at New Hope.
Phil enjoys many outdoor activities like running, hiking, camping, swimming, gardening, and the like. He especially enjoys these activities with his wife and four children. Phil would love to talk about many parts of the Bible that give him comfort and hope, but one that is dear to him is Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not by works, so that no one can boast.”
The opportunities to share his faith in Jesus as his Savior, and his love of teaching make him very excited to be at New Hope!

Mr. Hablewitz is from West Allis, Wisconsin, where he grew up and has lived his entire life. He went to grade school at St. John's in Milwaukee and continued on to high school at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. He then went on to Martin Luther College. He recently graduated from there. Mr. Hablewitz's parents still live in Milwaukee and his two sisters live in Wisconsin, as well.
Mr. Hablewitz loves all sports and sports teams of Wisconsin. His favorite sport is baseball because he lived ten minutes from Miller Park, the Milwaukee Brewers' stadium. He also enjoys just about anything outside, especially swimming. In his free time you will usually catch him watching sports, walking, swimming, or eating. His favorite food is Italian.
One of the things he is most excited about is being away from the Wisconsin winters. Mr. Hablewitz is privileged to share the Gospel with New Hope's third and fourth graders.

Mrs. Ewerdt grew up mainly in southern Minnesota where she attended a Lutheran grade school through eighth grade. She graduated from Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School in 2001, and then attended Martin Luther College where she received a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Physical Education. When she graduated in 2005 she received her first call to Redwood Falls, MN. That summer she also was thrilled to marry Phil. She taught 3rd and 4th grade there until their first child was born in 2006. She then was a stay-at-home mom until the present.
Mrs. Ewerdt loves to travel, cook, be outside, and go on adventures with her family. She is excited to be teaching again, as she still loves to learn about so many things, and she loves telling kids about their Savior and His love. She also enjoys reading about history and doing creative projects.
One of her favorite passages right now is 2 Cor. 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." She finds this a wonderful comfort in everything that is challenging, including teaching.
